I have to admit that as soon as I read the news regarding the participation of Nequam (The Magik Way) as vocalist of the new album by Malauriu, I immediately had a strong curiosity in imagining what would have resulted from the union between him and Schizoid, two innovative artistic personalities open to experimentation and contamination. From the words of Nequam himself, the journey that has resulted is unforgettable but also, I like to add, absolutely surprising. With the help of Felis Catus, the three have created an album that immediately leaves you speechless at the complete distance from what has been realized so far with the moniker Malauriu.
Forget extreme Black Metal (and actually Metal too) and let yourself be carried away by a successful mix of the esoterism made into poetic art by The Magik Way, punctuated by nursery rhymes and litanies, with the meandering darkness of the most typical Malauriu. A Dark Ambient style that, at certain moments, reminded me of Mortiis' earlier productions, preceding his industrial turning breakthrough.
The album is a four tracks concept, four suites longer than 10 minutes, which flow away unfolding arcane rites and evocations interpreted in the symbolic and dark language of the esoteric tradition, full of meanings unveiled only to initiates and to those who are ready to open up to listen and to understand. Nequam's recitation is as always fitting and evocative, it alternates and blends with melodies, the ensemble of voices, synths, acoustic and folk instruments, creating intense, dark and dramatic atmospheres which, in an exquisite cinematic crescendo, open the mind to unsettling images that remain even after listening.
The "Heavy" element is not completely absent and, in an absolutely perfect way, is revealed in the electric guitar riffs and in the percussion particularly evident in the second part of MORTO ERA L'ORO, which make the sense of the narration highly dramatic, as well as in the initials arpeggios of CORPO-TEMPIO, superimposed on the litanies which, at first with a pressing intensity followed by a slowdown, crawl like snakes in our minds. The last piece, L’ORO S’E’ FATTO, is introduced by the presentation of the English version's trailer of the film "La Maschera del Demonio" (ENG: Black Sunday, 1960), a masterpiece by Mario Bava, master of Italian horror cinema. The track resonates stylistically even closer to a soundtrack than the previous ones, serving both as a tribute to the famous artist and as a vivid closing of the rite with the completion of the alchemical transmutation.
The great and positive surprise in listening to this album leads to an even greater desire to know where Malauriu's thirst for experimentation will lead, which I am sure will not stop at this work and will soon delight us with new journeys and sensations to be discovered.

Ammetto che non appena letta la news riguardante la partecipazione di Nequam (The Magik Way) al nuovo album dei Malauriu, mi ha subito colto una forte curiosità nell’immaginarmi cosa sarebbe scaturito dall’unione tra lui e Schizoid, due personalità artistiche innovative ed aperte a sperimentazioni e contaminazioni. Dalle parole dello stesso Nequam, il viaggio che ne è scaturito è si indimenticabile ma anche, aggiungo io, assolutamente sorprendente. Con l’aiuto di Felis Catus, i tre hanno confezionato un album che lascia immediatamente a bocca aperta per la completa lontananza da quanto finora presentato con il moniker Malauriu.
Dimenticate il Black Metal estremo (ed in realtà anche il Metal) e lasciatevi trascinare da una riuscita miscela tra l’esoterismo reso arte poetica dei The Magik Way, scandito da filastrocche e litanie, con l’oscurità serpeggiante dei più tipici Malauriu. Un Dark Ambient che in certi momenti mi ha riportato alla mente alcune delle prime produzioni di Mortiis, precedenti alla sua svolta industrial.
Il disco è un concept di quattro brani, quattro suite di lunghezza superiore ai 10 minuti, che scorrono via dispiegando riti arcani ed evocazioni interpretate nel linguaggio simbolico ed oscuro della tradizione esoterica, densi di significati comprensibili agli iniziati ed a coloro che sono pronti ad aprirsi per ascoltare e per comprendere. La recitazione di Nequam è come sempre calzante ed evocativa, si alterna ed amalgama alle melodie, all’ensemble di voci, synth, strumenti acustici e folk, creando atmosfere intense, oscure e drammatiche che, in uno squisito crescendo cinematografico, aprono la mente ad immagini inquietanti che permangono anche dopo l’ascolto.
La componente Heavy non risulta assente del tutto e, in maniera assolutamente perfetta, si palesa nei riff di chitarra elettrica e le percussioni particolarmente evidenti nella seconda parte di MORTO ERA L’ORO, che rendono fortemente drammatico il senso della narrazione, così come negli arpeggi iniziali di CORPO-TEMPIO, sovrapposti alle litanie che, dapprima con una incalzante intensità seguita da un rallentamento, strisciano come dei serpenti nelle nostre menti. L’ultimo pezzo, L’ORO S’E’ FATTO, viene introdotto dalla presentazione parte del trailer della versione inglese del film “La Maschera del Demonio” (ING: Black Sunday, 1960), capolavoro di Mario Bava, maestro del cinema horror italiano. Il brano risuona stilisticamente ancora più vicino ad una colonna sonora rispetto ai precedenti fungendo sia da omaggio al celebre artista che da chiusura vivida del rito nella compiutezza della trasmutazione alchemica.
La grande e positiva sorpresa nell’ascolto del disco porta ad una voglia ancora maggiore di vedere dove porterà la sete di sperimentazione dei Malauriu che sono certo non si fermerà a questo lavoro e che ci delizierà presto con nuovi viaggi e sensazioni da scoprire.
