There are bands that seem to belong to a specific and well-labeled genre, and then there are others, instead, which, despite being part of something well defined, expand their base, reworking it, innovating it in such a way as to create a complex sound but at the same time captivating and full of interesting ideas. This is the case of Windfaerer who, with the new album Breaths of Elder Dawns, are able to land a winning blow.
This work, based on a basic Folk/Post-Black Metal, amazes for the classic inserts and inspired melodies as well as for the widespread use of the violin that captivates for its intensity. Growl and clean vocals alternate like more typical heavy metal solos with black outbursts and symphonic moments. The band clearly stands out from the current Post-Black Metal scene to which it belongs and which has been gaining a lot of approvals in recent years.
This time, I don't feel to go into the analysis of every single track because, in my opinion, this album must be experienced in its entirety, appreciating during its hour of duration the many facets it offers, resulting from the different influences of each component. Conceptually, the combo deals with different and contrasting themes such as hope, the destruction of the natural world, the comfort of death, and I must say that it succeeds well in the intent of representing them in music.
Ultimately, the new album by the American Windfaerer is a record not to be missed, something that will remain over the years and that will not be destined to gather dust on the shelves of fans who'll buy it, since many will be the plays needed to appreciate its many characteristics.

Ci sono delle band che sembrano appartenere ad un genere specifico e ben etichettabile, e poi ve ne sono altre, invece, che pur essendo parte di qualcosa di definito lo ampliano, lo rielaborano, lo innovano in maniera tale da creare un sound complesso ma allo stesso tempo accattivante e pieno di interessanti spunti. E' questo il caso dei Windfaerer che con il nuovo Breaths of Elder Dawns, assestano un colpo vincente.
L’opera fondata su un Folk/Post-Black Metal di base stupisce per gli inserti classici e melodie ispirate oltre che per il diffuso utilizzo del violino che rapisce per la sua intensità. Growl e clean vocals si alternano come assoli più heavy metal con sfuriate black e momenti più sinfonici. La band si distingue in maniera evidente dall’attuale scena Post-Black Metal a cui pur appartiene e che tanto consenso sta ottenendo in questi ultimi anni.
Non voglio addentrarmi nell’analisi di ogni singola traccia perché a mio parere il disco deve essere vissuto nella sua interezza apprezzando nella sua ora di durata le mille sfaccettature che propone, frutto delle diverse influenze di ogni suo singolo componente. Concettualmente il combo affronta diversi e contrastanti temi come la speranza, la distruzione del mondo naturale, il conforto della morte, e devo dire che ben riesce nell’intento di rappresentarli in musica.
In definitiva il nuovo album degli statunitensi Windfaerer è un disco da non farsi sfuggire, qualcosa che rimarrà negli anni e che non sarà destinato a prendere polvere tra gli scaffali dei fan che lo acquisteranno, tanti saranno gli ascolti necessari per apprezzarne le molteplici caratteristiche.
