ScreaMachine is the brand-new project born from an idea by Francesco Bucci (known for his militancy in Stormlord) and then formed by bringing together a group of talented and well-known musicians of the Italian metal scene such as Paolo Campitelli (Kaledon, Kalidia) and Alex Mele (Kaledon) on guitars, Alfonso “Fo” Corace on drums and Valerio “The Brave” Caricchio as vocalist. The quintet offers an intense and powerful work, inspired by the Heavy/Power Metal of bands such as Judas Priest, Iced Earth, Accept and Hammerfall and made genuinely interesting by an excellent songwriting.
DEMONDOME, first single released last February, starts immediately with razor sharp guitars on which the solid rhythm section and the vocals are inserted; Valerio immediately shows off his passionate and powerful timbre. The guitars realize riffs, solos and phrases inspired and furious since the beginning. The refrain has something epic and majestic, a feature emphasized in the album also by the skilful use of choral backing vocals, present transversally throughout the work. We continue to bang our heads with THE METAL MONSTER, hard and solid Heavy with excellent rides and a beautiful guitar solo, followed closely by THE HUMAN GOD, an initially slower and martial piece which then also strikes hard with solid Power riffs and compact drumming where Valerio's voice alternates between lower and higher tones a la Rob Halford. The piece is enhanced by Simone Mularoni's guitar solo, here as guest musician.
DARKSTEEL slightly slows down the rhythm with a more pounding track; drums and guitars start a “raise the horns” mid-tempo highlighted by a skillful bass work. Tone gets darker, the guitars draw heavy and majestic riffs, which in certain parts of the song acquire almost Epic/Doom moods, also supported by equally dark recited verses. We come back to the 80s with MISTRESS OF DISASTER, an anthemic and very melodic song, with a fresh Hard Rock/Sleaze sound and easygoing and funny lyrics. The next 52Hz changes style, Power tight and powerful from the very beginning, the work of the guitars is great, and the melodic refrain is particularly beautiful. The rhythm section does not stop its run until the beginning of the next WISDOM OF THE AGES, a song that slows down the rhythm with a slow start, ballad like, and some Prog/AOR recalls. It is the calmest moment of the work, a very emotional mid-tempo thanks also to the vocal contribution by Herbie Langhans, one of the super-guests of the piece together with Steve Di Giorgio on fretless bass. Classic Heavy in SILVER FEVER with sharp riffs and the singing style that returns at times to higher registers alternated by epic choruses. DANCING WITH THE SHADOWS is one of my favourites, Straight and modern Power Metal, with mighty rides and darker and more rhythmic melodies especially in the second part. A varying and superb song in which the guitar solo of Andrea Angelini of Stormlord, last guest of the album, is perfectly at ease.
SCREAM MACHINE closes the album with a certainly majestic beginning that then turns into another tense piece capable of unleashing adrenaline with sudden accelerations, a very inspired guitarworking, melodic vocals and refrains. For the whole duration, and even after, it transmits an incredible charge and a mad desire to go wild in front of the stage. And this is certainly the strong point of ScreaMachine's debut work, inspired and straight songs capable of transmitting a truly remarkable energetic charge. Well done!

ScreaMachine è il nuovissimo progetto nato dalla mente di Francesco Bucci (noto per la sua militanza negli Stormlord) e formatosi poi riunendo un gruppo di talentuosi e noti musicisti della scena metal italiana quali Paolo Campitelli (Kaledon, Kalidia) ed Alex Mele (Kaledon) alle chitarre, Alfonso “Fo” Corace alla batteria e Valerio “The Brave” Caricchio come vocalist. Il quintetto propone un lavoro intenso e potente, ispirato dall’Heavy/Power Metal di band come Judas Priest, Iced Earth, Accept ed Hammerfall e reso davvero interessante da un ottimo songwriting.
DEMONDOME, primo singolo dell’album rilasciato lo scorso febbraio, parte subito con rasoiate taglienti di chitarra su cui si innesta poi la solida sezione ritmica e la voce di Valerio, che da subito sfoggio della sua timbrica, passionale e potente. Le chitarre disegnano riff, assoli e fraseggi sin da subito ispiratissimi e furiosi. Il ritornello ha un che di epico e maestoso, caratteristica accentuata nell’album anche dal sapiente uso delle backing vocals corali, presenti trasversalmente nel corso di tutto il lavoro. Continuiamo a scuotere il cranio con THE METAL MONSTER, roccioso e solido Heavy con cavalcate di ottima fattura ed un bellissimo assolo di chitarra, seguito a ruota da THE HUMAN GOD, pezzo dall’inizio più lento e marziale ma che picchia poi anch’esso con Power riff solidi ed un drumming compatto dove la voce di Valerio alterna tra toni più bassi ed acuti alla Rob Halford. Impreziosisce il pezzo l’assolo di chitarra di Simone Mularoni qui in veste di ospite.
DARKSTEEL rallenta leggermente il ritmo con una traccia più cadenzata, tamburi e chitarre danno l’avvio ad un mid-tempo da corna al cielo dove il basso la fa da padrone. Il tono si fa più oscuro, le chitarre disegnano riff pesanti e maestosi, che in certi tratti della canzone assumono quasi tonalità da Epic/Doom supportate anche versi recitati altrettanto oscuri. Si torna agli anni ’80 con MISTRESS OF DISASTER, canzone antemica e molto melodica, con un sound fresco di stampo Hard Rock/Sleaze ed un testo altrettanto scanzonato e divertente. Cambia registro la successiva 52Hz, Power tirato e potente fin dall’inizio, grandissimo il lavoro delle chitarre e particolarmente bello il ritornello melodico. La sezione ritmica non arresta la sua corsa fino all’inizio della successiva WISDOM OF THE AGES, canzone che rallenta il ritmo con un inizio lento, da ballad, e successivi richiami Prog/AOR. È il momento più calmo del lavoro, mid-tempo molto emozionale anche grazie al contributo alle voci di Herbie Langhans, uno dei super-ospiti del pezzo insieme a Steve Di Giorgio al basso. Heavy classico in SILVER FEVER con riff taglienti ed il cantato che torna a tratti su registri più acuti alternato da epici cori. DANCING WITH THE SHADOWS è una delle mie preferite, Power tirato e moderno, con potenti cavalcate e melodie più oscure e cadenzate soprattutto nella seconda parte. Canzone varia e superba in cui si trova perfettamente a suo agio il solo di chitarra di Andrea Angelini degli Stormlord, ultimo ospite del disco.
SCREAM MACHINE chiude il lavoro con un inizio decisamente maestoso che si trasforma poi in un altro pezzo tirato e in grado di scatenare l’adrenalina con accelerazioni improvvise, un ispiratissimo guitarworking, voci e ritornelli melodici. Per tutta la durata, ed anche dopo, trasmette una carica incredibile ed una voglia matta di scatenarsi dinanzi al palco. E questo è sicuramente il punto di forza del primo lavoro degli ScreaMachine, canzoni ispirate e tiratissime capaci di trasmettere una carica energetica davvero notevole. Bravi!
