Second work for the Italians Ironthorn after their debut album in 2017. The intent of the band is clear from the title, proposing a solid classic metal inspired by legendary bands from the ‘80s. Songs are direct, with catchy refrains perfect to be played live and to headbang at their rhythm.
The melodic and evocative intro A NEW DAY opens a full-length album that in all its songs shows talented musicians and a very good production. Singer Luigi Pullara has got a warm and melodic tone that merges with the lyrics by creating deep emotional sounds.
Emotions are in fact the leitmotiv of the whole work. Songs are picturing moods taken from daily real life, expressing intimist and personal feelings such as freedom in WHEREWOLF, love in the ballad MY CURE (that would have not disfigured in the albums of any “legendary” band) or caused by difficult relationships as in LADRO DEL TEMPO (yes, a song in Italian!) or TRICK OR TREAT (honoring Helloween).
Special mention for LEGENDS that is a pure heavy metal song written as a tribute to the bands that inspired Ironthorn. We shall not spoil the artists we recognized but we leave to you listeners the “challenge”!
Ironthorn are Italians, but more specifically from Sicily, an island rich in classical culture, and this can be seen through echoes of classical mythology in the lyrics of THE SEED OF FIRE (featuring Roberto Tiranti as guest singer), LADRO DEL TEMPO and PHOENIX in which the arrangement includes folk melodies from local traditions played with flutes.
Album is closed by THE CALL OF SILENCE, an homage to Cthulhu and Metallica (yeah) showing a touch of heavy/trash and by the instrumental THE ANCIENT ROCK, recalling Arabic melodies and some hints of prog. Could it be an anticipation of the next album?

Secondo lavoro per gli italiani Ironthorn dopo il loro debutto del 2017. L’intento della band risulta chiaro sin dal titolo; la proposta è un solidissimo heavy metal di stampo classico ispirato dalle band leggendarie degli anni ‘80. Le canzoni sono dirette, con ritornelli orecchiabili perfetti per essere suonati live e per fare del sano headbang.
A NEW DAY, intro melodica ed evocativa, apre un full-length che in tutte le sue canzoni mostra musicisti davvero talentuosi ed una produzione davvero buona. Il cantante Luigi Pullara possiede un tono caldo e melodico che si amalgama alla perfezione con i testi creando suoni profondamente emozionali.
Le emozioni sono, d’altronde, il leit-motiv dell’intero album. Le canzoni riescono a dipingere una catena di pensieri e sentimenti parte della vita di tutti i giorni, esprimendo emozioni anche intime e personali come nel caso della libertà in WHEREWOLF, l’amore nella ballad MY CURE (che non avrebbe per nulla sfigurato in alcun album delle bands “leggendarie”) or causate da relazioni complicate come in LADRO DEL TEMPO (in italiano!) o TRICK OR TREAT (tributo agli Helloween).
Menzione speciale per LEGENDS, puro Heavy Metal scritto come tributo alle bands che hanno ispirato gli Ironthorn (e non solo loro). Non vi sto ad elencare tutti gli artisti “nascosti” nella canzone con diverse citazioni e lascio a voi la “sfida”!
Gli Ironthorn sono italiani come detto, ma, ancor più nello specifico, provengono dalla Sicilia, isola ricca di cultura classica. Queste influenze si riscontrano piacevolmente negli echi della mitologia classica che traspare dai testi di canzoni come THE SEED OF FIRE (con Roberto Tiranti in veste di cantante ospite), LADRO DEL TEMPO e PHOENIX, i cui arrangiamenti includono anche tipiche melodie folk locali suonate con i flauti.
L’album si chiude con THE CALL OF SILENCE, omaggio a Cthulhu ed ai Metallica (yeah), canzone che ci delizia con un tocco di heavy/trash e dalla strumentale THE ANCIENT ROCK, che richiama melodie arabe e un pizzico di prog. Che sia un’anticipazione del prossimo lavoro?
