Long Road is the first solo album of the artist known as Mr.Jack. First album but, as already said by the title, coming as outcome of a long path that involved the author in several adventures, from IRON HEART (2 albums and various tour dates), to numerous cooperation with national and international artists, organization and participation to events and clinics and horror soundtracks’ productions. Album has been entirely produced in Mr.Jack’s own home studio and, by mixing different genres and stories, involved several and well-known guests such as Freddy Delirio (Death SS, Freddy Delirio and the Phantoms), Maestro Mistheria (Mistheria, Vivaldi metal project), Tomas Valentini (Skanners) Valerio Edward De Rosa, Steve Volta (Perpetual Fire, Pino Scotto) and many more.
ONE LOVE opens this work, hard rock track with touches of prog. Arrangement is less complex that in the rest of the album, but it shows anyhow a very nice guitar/synth work able to create an atmosphere in which the voices chasing each other in a pleasant melody. MIND STRANGE brings us back to melodies from the ‘70s. The hard rock introduced by the duo guitar and Hammond recalls to mind those amazing sounds, sang with a warm voice, country-style like in some moments, creating a very nice and nostalgic song, varied in the bridges’ arrangement and that pleasantly goes by.
The beginning of TRIP TO PARADISE, with water in background to keyboard’s work may lead to think of an ambient/new age piece. The arrangements are very melancholic and the vocals, unlike other songs, becomes sweeter and emotional like the ballad itself. An abrupt change of scenery with the following INFERNAL WORD, various and fast heavy metal that reminds echoes of neoclassical prog/power alternating with more melodic sections that are useful to take a breath before dive in again in the powerful verses. Melodic and well-arranged track, with amazing guitar’s bridges and riffs.
LONG ROAD, to be listened to while watching the recently published video, it’s a rock blues track sang with a very warm voice (made me think about the best Eddie Vedder) in which Mr.Jack tells his past in a really passionate way. Video shows parts of interviews and glimpses of production in his own home studio, in a way to share an intimacy mood and to create a bond in this long journey. EARTQUAKE, other video taken from the album, it’s a well rhythmic hard rock, with guitar’s riffs emphasizing the physical and mental earthquake depicted by the warm and blues voice of Mr.Jack. Another example of hard rock is in the following METAL HEAD that, from a technical and vocal standpoint, is among the best tracks of the whole work. Guitar solos in great evidence, keyboards to efficiently fill the sound that results original and never predictable. It is particularly evident in this piece the influence of the soundtracks’ production.
The happy and cheerful ROCK WHROLE is the last song of the album. Hard rock directly from hair metal of the ‘80s, it’s an anthemic hymn to Rock ‘n Roll that immediately stucks in your mind with a catchy and immediate melody. Particularly good compositive work especially in the long guitar’s solo closed by a final tapping, that proves good skills and style variety of the author.
It is evident how the whole album is the tale of a story that really wants to be sensed as the passionate life history, what the author likes, his influences and expectations. A very intimate album that has gone through a long road and that for sure has opened an even longer one ahead.

Long Road è il primo album solista dell’artista noto come Mr.Jack. Primo album ma, come dice il titolo stesso, frutto di un lungo viaggio che ha portato l’autore a misurarsi con numerose avventure, dagli IRON HEART (2 album e svariate date in tour), a collaborazioni varie con artisti nazionali ed internazionali, partecipazione ad eventi e clinics e produzione di colonne sonore horror. L’album è interamente prodotto da Mr.Jack nel suo studio e, mescolando vari generi e storie, si avvale della collaborazione di ospiti quali Freddy Delirio (Death SS, Freddy Delirio and the Phantoms), Maestro Mistheria (Mistheria, Vivaldi metal project), Tomas Valentini (Skanners) Valerio Edward De Rosa, Steve Volta (Perpetual Fire, Pino Scotto) e molti altri.
Il disco si apre con ONE LOVE, pezzo hard rock con venature quasi prog. L’arrangiamento è meno elaborato che nel resto del disco ma presenta comunque un bel lavoro di chitarra e synth nel creare una atmosfera in cui le voci si rincorrono in una piacevole melodia. Con MIND STRANGE si torna indietro con gran balzo a melodie settantiane. L’hard rock introdotto da hammond e chitarra richiama tantissimo le belle melodie di quegli anni, cantate da una voce calda a tratti stile country a creare un pezzo bello e nostalgico, variegato nella costruzione dei bridge e che scorre via davvero piacevolmente.
L’inizio di TRIP TO PARADISE, con le tastiere e il rumore dell’acqua in sottofondo farebbero pensare quasi ad un pezzo ambient/new age. Gli arrangiamenti di tastiera sono molto malinconici e anche la voce, rispetto agli altri brani, diventa più dolce ed emozionante come tutta la ballad. Si cambia completamente registro con INFERNAL WORD, veloce e vario heavy metal, che richiama al suo interno echi di prog/power sempre però alternato a parti melodiche che servono a tirare il fiato prima di reimmergersi nel potente cantato delle strofe. Brano melodioso e ben curato con degli ottimi riffs e bridge di chitarra.
LONG ROAD, da ascoltare guardandone anche il recente video, è una traccia rock blues cantata con una voce molto calda (ricorda a tratti l’Eddie Vedder dei migliori tempi) ed in cui Mr.Jack racconta il suo vissuto con molta passione. Il video mostra spezzoni di interviste e scorci della registrazione nello studio casalingo come a voler trasmettere il senso di intimità e partecipazione a questo lungo viaggio. EARTHQUAKE, altro video estratto dall’album, è un bell’hard rock cadenzato, con i riffs di chitarra a marcare il terremoto fisico e mentale narrato dalla voce di MrJack calda e blues. Si continua con un altro esempio di hard rock nella seguente METAL HEAD che, a livello compositivo e di prestazione vocale, è tra le migliori tracce dell’album. Assoli di chitarra in grande evidenza, tastiere a riempire efficacemente il sound che risulta molto vario e mai banale. Si notano in questo pezzo le influenze della produzione di colonne sonore.
L’allegra e spensierata ROCK WHROLE chiude l’album. Hard rock di stampo hair metal anni ’80, è un inno antemico al Rock ‘n Roll e si fissa subito in testa con una melodia orecchiabile ed immediata. Molto bello il lavoro delle chitarre soprattutto nel lungo assolo con tapping finale che dimostra molta varietà e qualità nello stile dell’autore.
Si percepisce come l’intero album sia il racconto di una storia, che vuole davvero configurarsi come la storia appassionata della vita e di ciò che piace all’autore, le sue influenze ed aspirazioni. Un album molto personale che ha percorso molta strada ma che ne ha sicuramente aperta una ancora più lunga.
